Child abuse is the physical or psychological maltreatment of a
child by an adult, often synonymous with the term child maltreatment or the term
child abuse and neglect. There are many forms of abuse and neglect and many
governments have developed their own legal definition of what constitutes child
maltreatment for the purposes of removing a child and/or prosecuting a criminal
charge
This site is dedicated to all the children who have suffered abuse. Whether it
be physical, sexual, mental or any other form of abuse. Any form of abuse is
WRONG, and I for one think abuse against children is the lowest form of
humanity. If you would like to share your thoughts and feelings, I would be
happy to add them.
Statistics
- It's estimated that at least one child dies each week in England and Wales as a result of physical abuse. Babies are particularly vulnerable, being five times more likely to be killed than all other ages.
- Approximately 30,000 children are currently on child protection registers. A child's name is placed on the register when health or social services staff are concerned that the child is at risk of abuse.
- Eight out of ten young people who have experienced physical abuse have also seen violence between their parents and/or carers.
Violence is a learned behavior. Many children who witness abuse grow up to repeat the behavior as spouses and as parents. Seventy-three percent of batterers witnessed violence as children
